Scilife teams up to protect Cataluña’s wildlife and launches “Scilife for Good”.
This is a new employee volunteering program empowering global teams to give back to the causes they care about.
At Scilife, team buildings have always been about more than just a break from work; they’re a moment to reconnect, strengthen bonds, and realign with our shared mission.
But in May 2025, we took things a step further.
This time, connection meant more than coming together as colleagues. It meant tuning in to something bigger—the world around us.
We decided to bring our “All Heart and Ears” spirit to a whole new dimension by asking a key question:
What if we could extend our impact beyond the life sciences industry?
What if listening also meant noticing the quiet needs of the world beyond our screens?
That’s how we found ourselves in Altafulla, trash bags in hand, sea breeze on our faces, and hearts wide open.
“I feel comfortable when a company demonstrates empathy towards the environment. Sometimes, it's disheartening to see that many people don't adequately appreciate the environment in which they live. However, being able to connect with groups and become part of communities that genuinely care, participating in activities like these and contributing even in small ways, is extremely rewarding.”

We partnered with Everama, a local organization dedicated to preserving wildlife and protecting natural spaces. Alongside their team of environmental experts and volunteers, we spent the day supporting one of Cataluña’s officially protected coastal areas.
With guidance from the Everama team, we split up: one group headed toward the river, the other to the beach.
Our mission? A large-scale litter cleanup.
As we worked through the tangled vegetation and sandy shorelines, we were shocked by how much waste had built up: plastic bottles, wrappers, forgotten debris.
But we could see the change with every bag we filled. The landscape slowly came back to life.
But our experience didn’t end there.
“Giving back to the community is always rewarding, but our recent beach cleanup was truly eye-opening. What initially seemed like a relatively clean shore quickly revealed a distressing amount of hidden litter and debris. The longer we spent there, the more apparent it became just how much our planet, and its delicate ecosystems, suffer from neglect. In only a few hours, we managed to collect over ten bags of trash. Being part of this effort was incredibly fulfilling and has inspired me to initiate similar cleanups in my own community."

Everama also introduced us to a method they use called ethical trapping, a non-invasive way to monitor the health of local wildlife. It allows their team to collect data while keeping the animals safe and undisturbed.
We even had the chance to check a few traps ourselves, and to our surprise, we came across a tiny fish, a crab, and even a small turtle!
We also learned how some animals need to be carefully relocated to safer areas within the habitat, a small but important part of the organization’s mission to help maintain balance in the local ecosystem.
It was a hands-on day that gave us a new perspective on the local ecosystem and showed how much can be achieved when people come together with a shared purpose.
“The day before, we did an active listening exercise with each other, and out on the beach, it felt like doing the same with nature. Picking up broken glass from the rocks, pulling plastic out of seaweed, spotting bird tracks in the sand, it was a simple way to really pay attention and give a little back to the place and community that welcomed us.”

But we knew this energy didn’t have to stop at the shoreline.
We wanted every Scilifer to have the chance to make an impact, not just as part of a company event, but in their own communities, on their own terms.
And so, we officially launched Scilife for Good:
A new initiative that gives every Scilifer up to two paid volunteer days per year to support a cause close to their heart.
Whether it’s protecting the environment, supporting healthcare, helping underserved communities, or advancing social equity, we want to empower our people to make a difference, wherever they are, however they choose.
From cleaning coastlines to launching new opportunities to give back, this experience reminded us that small, purposeful actions matter. They add up. They create momentum.
And when we listen, really listen, we find new ways to act.
That’s the kind of culture we’re proud to build at Scilife.
And this is just the beginning.
There’s a lot of good yet to be done.
Want to see how we turn values into action? Explore our Scilife for Good initiative and discover how we’re making an impact.
We’re proud to support the individual passions and collective impact of our global team. Because when companies give people the freedom to do good, the ripple effect can be extraordinary.
